Surfline.com - Bruce Brown’s (Final) Endless Summer
A chat with Dana Brown about his new flick chronicling his dad’s last adventure
The legacy left behind by Bruce Brown, iconic surf filmmaker and the man responsible for bringing surfing into the mainstream through cinema, cannot be understated. His magnum opus, The Endless Summer, showed the world what the life of a surfer entails – travel, the unending search for new waves and, of course, adventure.
So, when his son, Dana, decided to follow in his dad’s filmmaking footsteps, it was no surprise that the movie-making genes ran hot. And Dana’s latest flick pays homage to his pops. A life of Endless Summers: The Bruce Brown Story takes Dana and his dad on one final adventure before Bruce’s passing in 2017 – a road trip to see some of his old friends, including Gerry Lopez, Hobie Alter, Jack O’Neill, and more.
We caught up with Dana to hear more about the project, including Bruce’s lasting impact on surf culture, the catharsis of seeing old friends, and how Bruce maintained that sense of wanderlust throughout all those years. Check out the chat below.
